Ratings & Endorsements
These may be achieved as part of or in addition to your training for a pilot licence.
Night Rating (NVFR)
A night rating gives you the flexibility to fly after dark or to depart before first light. The course includes additional training in instrument flying, night circuits, night navigations and the use of radio navigation aids.
Training for the night rating is open to eligible PPL holders, but may also be included as part of a CPL course. It will take a minimum of 10 hours and is competency based.
Private Instrument Rating (PIFR)
This is a good option for PPL holders who wish to fly under the Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) on private flights.
Command Instrument Rating (CIR)
Only available to CPL holders, the CIR enables a pilot to fly as pilot in command of a commercial operation under the IFR. This qualification is required by many aviation organisations, and is therefore essential for CPL holders who wish to pursue a career in the airlines.
Multi-Engine Endorsement
This endorsement enables a PPL or CPL holder to fly larger and more complex aircraft with two or more engines. It is frequently completed by CPL holders in conjunction with a CIR, and is essential for any commercial pilot seeking a career with the airlines.
