Commercial Pilot Licence - CPL(H)

This is the licence that lets you start earning money as a pilot. Some of the jobs available include joy flights, fire spotting/bombing, flight instructor, aerial surveillance, charter, search and rescue, powerline inspections, livestock mustering and other types of agricultural operations.

There is a lot of theory involved in your CPL training and seven exams to sit in the subjects of Aerodynamics, Aircraft General Knowledge, Air Law, Human Factors, Navigation, Meteorology and Operations, Performance and Flight Planning.

To be eligible for a CPL, you must:

    • fly 105 hours with 35 hours in command and 10 hours cross-country
    • be 18 when your CPL is issued
    • have an Aviation Reference Number (ARN)
    • hold a Class 1 or Class 2 Medical Certificate
    • hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
    • pass an English proficiency test
    • pass the seven CPL CASA exams
    • pass a CPL flight test

COST: Approximately $99,000 (based off the minimum 105 hours).

This includes flight lessons $895 per hour + landing fees, theory books and materials, medical, security clearance and exam fees. 

Ratings and endorsements are extra on top of this base amount.

Prices are based on flights in a Robinson R44 helicopter.
