Flight Training
How long will it take to get my licence?
This will depend on what licence you are aiming for and how often you are able to fly. A Private Pilot Licence could take 6-12 months, and a Commercial Pilot Licence may take anywhere from 12-18 months.
How often should I fly during my training?
It is recommended you don’t fly more than 3 times per week. Learning to fly can be tiring and you’ll want to ensure you’re well rested mentally and physically for each lesson.
Can I work and learn to fly at the same time?
Yes absolutely. Nearly all our students have a part-time job while learning to fly. Some have a full-time job and will learn to fly on weekends and days off.
Where will my flight training be?
Your flight training will be at Parafield Airport. This is a Class D airspace and is a brilliant learning environment and will teach you how to fly in controlled airspace.
What exams are involved?
A Recreational Pilot Licence and Private Pilot Licence have 1 exam each. A Commercial Pilot Licence has 7 exams. All exams are done externally to the flight school. There is an ASPEQ Exam Centre at Parafield Airport which makes it easy when the exam time comes.
Where can I buy my books and flying gear?
Aerostar can help you order books, exam material and flying gear you wish to use, otherwise we can show you the best places to order this online or get from in store.
Can I get help studying for my exams?
Yes. Aerostar offer ground school at Parafield Airport which will help you go through the content of your exams. Alternatively, we can assist you with one-on-one tutoring if you need help in a certain area.
What type of aircraft do you use?
Our helicopter students learn in a Robinson R44, and our fixed wing students learn in a Cessna 172. These modern aircraft are used for scenic flights and air transport (charter) operations all around Australia giving you a great opportunity to fly in the type of aircraft you may well be working in once you complete your licence.

What do I need to wear?
Anything, but we do not recommend high heels.
How many passengers can you take?
Depends on the type of aircraft we are using and the total maximum weight of passengers. It’s best to let us know what your passenger requirements are, and we can cater to your needs.
