Recreational Pilot Licence - RPL(A)

This is the first CASA licence and allows holders to: 

    • fly an aeroplane solo in the circuit area or the designated training area with one passenger
    • only fly for private purposes under Day Visual Flight Rules
    • fly no more than 25NM from base

 

To meet the requirements for the licence, you must:

    • minimum of 25 hours flying time
    • be at least 16 years of age (can start learning earlier, but must be 15 to fly solo)
    • hold a Class 1 or 2 Medical
    • hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
    • pass an English proficiency test
    • pass an RPL theory exam
    • pass a flight test

 

If your aim is a Private or Commercial Pilot licence, you don’t need to obtain an RPL first, you can move straight on to the higher licences.

COST: Approximately $13,000 (based off the minimum 25 hours).

This includes flight lessons at $450 per hour + landing fees, theory books, medical, security clearance and exam fees.
