Private Pilot Licence - PPL(H)
This is the licence that lets you fly anywhere in the country with non-paying passengers in the type of helicopter you are rated to fly.
Training covers flight rules and air law, aerodynamics, meteorology, navigation, flight planning, power plants, aircraft systems and other relevant subjects.
To be eligible for a PPL, you must:
- fly at least 40 hours including 10 solo, and 5 solo cross country.
- be at least 17 years of age
- have an Aviation Reference Number (ARN)
- hold a Class 1 or Class 2 Medical Certificate
- hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
- pass an English proficiency test
- pass a PPL theory exam (70% pass mark)
- pass a PPL flight test
Once you have your PPL, you can add a number of endorsements and ratings to your licence allowing you to fly at night, fly at low levels and different types of helicopters. You can see the ratings and endorsements Aerostar offers here.
COST: Approximately $37,500 (based off the minimum 40 hours).
This includes flight lessons $895 per hour + landing fees, theory books and materials, medical, security clearance and exam fees.
Ratings and endorsements are extra on top of this base amount.
Prices are based on flights in a Robinson R44 helicopter.
